Berlin’s Nala Earth raises €3.8M to help businesses manage environmental risks and comply with regulations
Berlin-based Nala Earth, a nature & biodiversity management platform, has raised €3.8M in funding. The round was led by European VC firm IRIS, with support from KOMPAS VC, Pale Blue Dot, and Founderful.
The funding will be used to enhance its platform for corporate nature and biodiversity management, expand use cases, scale operations, and accelerate product development by increasing recruitment efforts.
Jan-Soeren Zinke, an early-stage investor at IRIS, says, “Enterprise Executives face growing regulatory pressures and risks tied to environmental impacts.”
“Nala Earth stands out with its AI-driven platform and scientifically validated data, empowering businesses to integrate nature into decision-making. Backed by an exceptional team, we believe Nala Earth will define the future of nature and biodiversity management.”
Andreas Winter-Extra, Partner at KOMPAS VC, adds, “We invested in Nala Earth because we believe in their potential to revolutionise how companies measure, manage, and report their impact on nature.”
“Their technology not only ensures compliance with regulations like CSRD but also helps businesses understand financial risks linked to nature loss. Resilience and sustainability are at the core of our investment philosophy, making this partnership a perfect fit.”
Helping businesses navigate environmental impact and risks
Biodiversity reporting is growing as companies manage nature-related risks and comply with regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which requires large companies to disclose their environmental impact (started in 2024). By 2028, the CSRD will apply to over 50,000 businesses.
Nala Earth simplifies this reporting process, reducing timelines from months to days and helping companies align with frameworks such as the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN).
Founded in 2023 by Nick Zumbühl, Nicolas Somogyi, and Anna Alex, the company supports businesses in navigating emerging regulations requirements and addressing the environmental degradation that threatens key resources like water, pollination, and biodiversity, vital for industries like agriculture, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals.
In the past year, Nala Earth formed partnerships with major European corporations like Volkswagen, BASF, and Continental, expanding its customer base to 10 companies.
These collaborations cover over 3,000 hectares under active nature management, highlighting the increasing demand for innovative solutions in nature and biodiversity.
“We make it possible for businesses to go beyond compliance,” says, Somogyi, CPO & co-founder of Nala Earth. “Our platform enables companies to understand and mitigate their dependencies on nature, turning risks into opportunities.”
Capital utilisation
The funds will help Nala Earth enhance its platform to expand use cases for integrating nature and biodiversity into corporate decision-making.
The proceeds will also support the company’s product development through key hires in engineering and design, enabling the addition of new modules and features to its nature intelligence platform.
CEO & co-founder, Nick Zumbühl, says, “Nature is fundamental to most businesses and must be considered in every decision, whether it’s about procurement, direct operations, or financing opportunities. With Nala Earth, we are building the intelligence platform necessary to make this possible.”
“We are thrilled to have experienced investors on board who bring valuable expertise and strategic guidance, supporting our mission to drive impactful solutions in the fields of nature and biodiversity.”
