Alstom, a global frontrunner in smart and sustainable transportation solutions, has announced a landmark contract with CLIP Intermodal for the supply of its third-generation Traxx multi-system locomotives. This agreement, signed recently, will see the delivery of five advanced locomotives, designed to operate seamlessly across key European corridors, including Poland, Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary. These locomotives will be produced at Alstom’s manufacturing facility in Kassel, Germany, with the car body shells crafted at its site in Wrocław, Poland.

This contract further solidifies the ongoing partnership between Alstom and CLIP Intermodal, a part of the renowned CLIP Group. Earlier in 2024, both companies forged an agreement for 13 Traxx multi-system locomotives, to be deployed in Poland, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, and France. This collaborative effort not only covers the production of the locomotives but also extends to a two-year preventive maintenance agreement during the warranty phase.

The third-generation Traxx Universal multi-system locomotives stand out for their exceptional operational efficiency, reliability, and energy-saving capabilities. These robust units are engineered to handle heavier loads, offering enhanced performance compared to other locomotives in their category. Built on a reliable and modular platform used for both passenger and freight transportation, these locomotives support various configurations, including AC, DC, and multi-system options. With approvals in 20 countries and an impressive annual travel distance of over 300 million kilometers, they are a key player in modern rail operations across Europe.

“The purchase of additional 5 Traxx 3 MS locomotives is another step towards strengthening CLIP Intermodal’s position on the European market. This step is a natural consequence of the company’s dynamic development, which included the expansion of the Intermodal Terminal in Swarzędz. Thanks to the new locomotives, the company will be able to even more effectively achieve its objectives related to the development of sustainable intermodal transport, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improving traffic safety” – emphasises Agnieszka Hipś, President of the Management Board of CLIP Group S.A.

The new locomotives ordered by CLIP Intermodal will boast impressive speeds of up to 160 km/h and will be equipped with Alstom’s cutting-edge Onvia Cab™ signalling system. This state-of-the-art system integrates the European Train Control System (ETCS), providing extensive coverage across multiple nations and rail networks, ensuring safe and efficient operations on both ETCS and legacy systems.

“Alstom’s modern solutions have been supporting efficient and environmentally friendly intermodal transport for many years. We are pleased with this additional contract for Traxx locomotives that will serve both in domestic and international rail transport. We are convinced that the Traxx locomotives will strengthen the position of CLIP Intermodal and allow for its further dynamic development in low-emission European transport corridors,” emphasises Beata Rusinowicz, the Managing Director of Alstom in Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic States.

Alstom’s leadership in the locomotive sector is indisputable, with over 6,000 locomotives ordered worldwide since 2000, many of which are operational across Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa. The company also stands as a dominant force in locomotive maintenance, managing a fleet of over 2,450 locomotives, including nearly 600 Traxx units. Moreover, Alstom is a pioneer in ETCS onboard technology, having equipped 70% of ERTMS trains in Europe and installed over 25,000 onboard units on more than 200 vehicle types globally.

This latest agreement with CLIP Intermodal marks another milestone in Alstom’s commitment to transforming the global rail landscape through innovative, sustainable, and efficient mobility solutions.
