Rotterdam announces €500K Circular Innovation Fund to support local SMEs: How to Apply?
The municipality of Rotterdam has announced the availability of €500,000 in funding specifically aimed at promoting circular innovations among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
This initiative is designed to assist a range of businesses, from budding startups with novel concepts to established companies seeking to modify their operations in line with sustainable practices.
The Circular Innovation subsidy is part of Rotterdam’s commitment to promote a circular economy, which focuses on reducing the use of primary raw materials and enhancing the region’s economic resilience.
Circular Innovation Fund: Criteria
Businesses applying for the subsidy will be assessed based on several key criteria, including their contribution to a circular economy, the scalability, the realistic budget and the relationship between the requested amount and the impact that the initiative makes.
Applicants must also meet specific conditions, such as securing co-financing and demonstrating that their project has reached a minimum development phase.
Each project can apply for a subsidy, ranging from €50,000 to €100,000. Beyond financial assistance, the municipality is prepared to leverage its network to help businesses access further financing, pilot programs, workspace, and business development resources.
How to apply?
Interested candidates can submit their applications until May 7, 2025, via Rotterdam.nl.
Applicants will be informed by July 30, 2025, whether their projects have been awarded funding.
